Dirt, Sweat and tears

You probably don’t have to be reminded that it can be hot, sticky, and dirty in the great outdoors. Then again, your romanticized images of how the day will unfold may not have included all of the nitty-gritty realities. The truth is, it is hard for a groom to look his most dashing in a sweat-stained tuxedo, and a bride who doesn’t shed a tear during the ceremony may sob openly when she looks down and discovers that the hem of her white gown is heavily soiled and her once-pristine shoes are encrusted in mud. And while tears may cause mascara to run, that may be the least of a bride’s cosmetic worries on a steamy, makeup melting day. Mud, dust, heat, humidity-all can make for unpleasant conditions for guests, as well.
There is no way to turn the outdoors into a temperature-regulated and antiseptic environment. The key is to accept this and to keep outdoor hazards in mind as you make decisions about what you will wear and how you will prepare for the day. For example, you’ll be far less heartbroken to sully a dress that cost hundreds rather than thousands of dollars. You’ll feel confident if you’ve packed a complete makeup repair kit. And your groom will look fresher, feel more comfortable, and remember why he adores you if you ensure there is an air-conditioned vehicle or building where he can await your arrival. You might even go one step further and assure him it’s perfectly okay to skip the jacket and wear just a shirt or shirt and vest if the heat is truly unbearable.
